Ciao Chichanella Bella!
Can't get any sweeter than the candy-colored confections from Chichanella Bella, a new swimwear collection designed out of Townsend, Delaware. Yet founder/designer Cara Lewis avoids a sugar rush by incorporating a vintage vibe with ruffles, flowers, polka dots and stripes. From the vintage images at www.chichanellabella.com to the feminine, delicate details on the suits, it's clear Lewis has an affinity for fashions from earlier decades.
The nostalgic look of her one-piece and two-piece designs are enhanced by modern details, like lettuce edging and shearing, and thoughtful touches, such as hand-rolled rosettes and snap bottoms for easy swim diapering. These stylish details keep the collection from veering into costumery.
The collection is full of gems, but a special standout is the Salt Water Sammy two-piece suit. With its boy-cut bottoms and top with cap sleeves and floating fabric over the bust, this modest alternative to the bikini is reminiscent of the 1940s. The Sandy Bottom two-piece is another must-have. With its sweet tube style top and knee-length bottoms, it manages to be cute without being cutesy.
Like the style names - Pink Taffy, Cotton Candy, Lemon Drop, Lifeguard Lu Lu, Sailor Sadie and Seaside Sweetheart - Chichanella Bella swimsuits will have parents (and grandparents) recalling more innocent times.
Chichanella Bella is the nickname Lewis' grandmother gave her when she was a child. It means "beautiful little one." Lewis says the company is a tribute to her grandmother, whose outlook on life always reminds her to "slow down, enjoy the natural gifts in life and find happiness inside my own four walls."
For sizes six months to size 5, Chichanella Bella swimwear, headbands and hats can be found at www.chasing-fireflies.com, saigenicole.com and www.chichanellabella.com
